Dublin Weekly Nation - Saturday 16 October 1875 BELL-FOUNDING IN DUBLIN. We have been favoured with a view of a magnificent bell which Mr. Murphy, the eminent and well-known bell-founder of Thomas street, in this city, has just made for the Westland-row church. It is, we believe, the largest single bell in Ireland. It weighs over two tons, is five feet two inches in height, by four feet six inches in diameter. The shape is remarkably beautiful, and it is needless to say that the sound is very sweet and powerful. The note it strikes is D natural, and we understand that it is rare to find a bell of such a shape with such a tone. The inscription runs as follows:- “Anno. Salutis. 1875. Sacri. Autem. Principatus. Pii. IX. Papæ. Paulo. S.R.E. Cardinali. Cullen. Archiepiscopo. Dublinensi. Me. Fieri. Fecit. R. D. Michael. Doyle. Proparochus. Et. Hujus. Ecclesiæ. Andreæ. Rector.” [Extracted Dickon Love, July 2024]
