Weekly Freeman’s Journal - Saturday 08 April 1882 COOKSTOWN CATHOLIC CHURCH. The ceremony of blessing a new bell and consecrating altars recently erected in the Catholic Church here took place on Sunday. … The bell, which is from the eminent establishment of Mr. Murphy, Thomas-street, Dublin, arrived during the week, and was got partly into position yesterday. It is an exceedingly handsome casting, is of note C, weighs within a few pounds of 43 cwt, and has a diameter across the mouth of five feet, two inches. It bears the inscription, “Revdus P. J. Byrne, P.P., me fieri fecit, A.D. 1882;” also the figures of a harp beneath a crown, the base of the harp resting on a sprig of shamrock.” [Extract Dickon R Love Jul 2024]
