Immediately after the sermon his Lordship proceeded with the solumn ceremony of blessing the new bell presented to the Church by Mr McCarthy, Limerick Street, in memory of his son. The following was the inscription on the bell – “Prsented by Michael McCarthy, Esq, to St Cronan’s Church, Roscrea, in memory of his beloved son, john, elected M P, for Mid-Tipperaru, 1892; died 1893; Erected, 1904. The bell which weighs 42 cwt, was cast at Mr O’Byrne’s, Fountain Head Bell Foundry, 42, James’s Street, Dublin.
New Ross Standard - Friday 07 October 1904 On Sunday his lordship blessed the new bell in the Roman Catholic church. [suggests that the bell is dated 1904 and not 1905 as is given in other sources]
