Canons: The bells are probably all flat-topped (the hour bell is)

Casting dates: (nos.8 and 10) 18 September 1896, (nos.3, 7 and 9), 9 October 1896, (nos.4-6 and 6b) 3 November 1896, (nos.1 and 2) 2 December 1896 and (no.2 second casting) 12 January 1897

Completion and invoicing: Left the works, 23 February 1897. Completed 13 March 1897 and invoiced same date (daybook 8 p.104) to The Mayor and Corporation of Kendal at a total cost of £1018.12.8., including bells (£837.8.0.), inscriptions (344 letters) (£5.14.8.), frame and fittings (£57.0.0.), fittings and frame for extra bell (£6.0.0.), Fixing (£35.0.0.), Carriage (£32.10.0) and chiming apparatus (£45.0.0.)

Inscriptions:

1-10. Order uncertain from published version, which gives them as:- There are eleven bells in the Tower; the large (tenor) bell weighs 44 cwt. 1 qr., and bears the following inscription:- “These Bells were bequeathed to the inhabitants of Kendal by Alderman William Bindloss, Mayor, MDCCCXCV," and the following Mottoes are inscribed on the other ten bells (which vary in weight from 4 cwt. to 30 cwt.) namely:- 2) Justitiam et Honorem Colant Omnes; (3) Deum laudo, Vivos voco, Mortuos plango; (4) Honos alit Artes; (5) Honos est praemium Virtutis; (6) Nihil semper Floret, Aetas Succedit Aetatem; (7) Omnia fert Aetas Animum quoque; (8) Ring in the love of truth and right; (9) Ring in the common love of good; (10) Omnia Jovam Laudant Animantia; (11) Nobis Solamen det Deus.
