Casting dates: Hour bell cast for and exhibited at the International Exhibition in 1862 and purchased by the Corporation of Halifax. It was cast on 12 March 1862. The four quarter bells were cast on Thursday 30 April 1863
Completion and invoicing: The Hour bell was invoiced to the Corporation of Halifax in December 1862 (daybook 2 p.140) at a total cost of £380 which included £10 for the frame and fittings. The quarter bells and fittings left Loughborough on Wednesday 3 June 1863. They were invoiced to the Corporation on 4 August 1863 (daybook 2 p.158) at a total cost of £332.6.7. The job book entry states “The Halifax Town Hall was opened by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on Tuesday the 4th of August 1863”. The Taylor printed catalogue of 1863 (JT 7/1/1/7) includes a testimonial dated 14 November 1863 from Alderman Walsh, Chairman of the New Town Hall Building Committee, and a commendation from E.B. Denison (later Lord Grimthorpe) stating that “It think it (the Bell now in Halifax Town Hall) the best bell in the [International] Exhibition [1862]”.
Inscriptions: No record of any inscriptions.
Hangings: “The above are only hung as clock bells”. Hung with wooden headstocks and smithwork with “iron carriages to let in the frame”
