[2]County notes on Northumberland (C J Pickford)

Wooler, St Mary, Northumberland: Taylor index - 1896 1 33½” 7-0-18 Not in job book (but see Metals book (bells) 2, p.122. Cast for Mickleton (i.e. as 4th of eight, 1894); George Elphick (visit 10 September 1975) noted a 33½” bell, inscribed cast by John Taylor (two oak leaves). Flat head. Hung for ringing in an iron frame. There is a clock. The Vicar wrote to tell George that “the 1772 bell was replaced some years ago … and it hung in a stand in the new churchyard until about 20 years ago when the stand collapsed and the bell was sold for scrap”.
