Notes
[1]Note on date of bell
The inscription bears the date 1977. It had previously been reckoned to be 1976 as the date in the job book is 26 November 1976. It is believed that these dates in the later job books are order dates. The inscription book gives the inscription as Waist: 19 (Taylor’s rectangular mark) 76 – although that’s clearly not the date on the bell. However, the casting book shows that it was cast on 12 October 1977 – and there’s no record of any earlier bell cast for Penwortham in 1976-7. It was invoiced on 24 November 1977. The bell was originally hung dead with solenoid clapper. [Thanks to Chris Pickford for researching the Taylor records.]
