Fittings on all eight bells to be overhauled; clappers to be rebushed; chiming hammer on 4th bell to be overhauled
1998 by Nicholson Engineering Ltd (major overhaul)
New gudgeons and bearings were fitted; the remaining cast-in staples were removed; the clappers were overhauled; bell 4/8, found to be cracked in its crown, was weld repaired by Soundweld
1998 by Local labour/guild/assn (major overhaul)
The steel foundation to the frame had become loose in the walls; the ends of the joists were excavated and reset; some plan-bracing was added to the foundation.

17/08/2025The former sanctus bell at Devizes (St John) was transferred to Appleshaw, S Peter, Hampshire under faculty in 1964. It was fitted out by Taylors to be hung as a replacement for the c1200 bell but was stolen from the builders yard some time before July 1965 while a frame was being made for it. [Chris Pickford from the Taylor archive]
