Notes

[1]Notes on the restoration of the bells by Eayre & Smith

After a long delay in the granting of a faculty, four of the five bells were removed from the tower. The badly cracked tenor bell remains on the clockroom floor as it cannot be lifted without it breaking into several pieces – it was lowered to the clockroom some years ago, but continued corrosion of the cast-in crown staple has caused rapid deterioration. Bell no. 2 of the five was also cracked, but this has now been repaired by Soundweld. The tenor bell is being replaced with the bell which was previously no. 5 of the six at Silsden, and which is of similar size. It has been retuned at Eayre & Smith’s works to the required note. The five bells are being rehung in the old frame (which had to be retained, but is not suitable for full circle ringing). The bells will be sounded by electromagnetic clappers and will chime various Doubles methods using a change-ringing generator designed and produced by David Bagley. [Ringing World 13 June 2003]
